If creating abstract work excites you but you don’t know where to begin then this workshop is for you.

There are many ways to explore abstract landscapes and this session will focus on abbreviating shapes, loosening up our painting and drawing through structured exercises, and exploring linear landscape features such as pathways, field boundaries, plough lines and man made objects like phone lines, buildings and telegraph poles.

During the morning you will undertake several exercises that will help you explore different arrangement of landscape elements to create something new. In particular we will explore the role lines play in landscape painting and how we can a sense of abstraction by rearranging them and altering their weight and expression. During the afternoon session we will explore a limited colour palette and begin to interpret our studies using different painting techniques. You will have the opportunity to practice a variety of different media such as acrylic paint, ink, soft pastels, coloured crayons and charcoal.

All materials for this workshop are provided but please feel free to bring along any brushes or particular colours you wish to use.
